Somewhere between the haunting melodies, the delicate intricate musicality & his tender, introspective lyrics; Rob Wheeler has discovered a refreshing new way of doing something timeless; telling stories with his songs.
His music is a blend of modern country music, Laurel Canyon influenced Americana; folk-inspired warm ballads and his first true love - There Beatles, marrying the Nashville soundscape with a very typically British cynical lyrical view on love, lust, life, death, hope, regret, Faith & despair.
He has received serious critical acclaim from such prominent music writers as Neil McCormick (chief music critic for The Daily Telegraph) & Paul Sexton (BBC Radio 2) who recently penned the authorised biography of Charlie Watts; "Charlie's Good Tonight".
His soon-to-be-released third studio album features a wealth of talent from Nashville, where the album was both written and recorded, including:- Award winning producer-writer Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow/Counting Crows); songwriter hall of fame inductee Steve Dorff (Tim McGraw/George Strait); Carnival Music's Mando Saenz (Midland) & Marla Cannon-Goodman (Miranda Lambert) who both make guest vocal appearances & Carnival founder Frank Liddell (Lee Ann Womack/Waylon Payne).
Mix engineers Warren David (Keith Urban) & Pavel Dovgalyuk (Justin Moore); recording engineers Diana Walsh (RCA Victor Studio B) & Owen Lewis (Morgan Wade/Sadler Vader); with guest musicians Robbie Macintosh (John Mayer/Paul McCartney) & ACM winning drummer
Fred Eltringham (Sheryl Crow/Amanda Shires/Willie Nelson).
It is an impressive roll call of Tennessee talent and the album is due to be released in summer 2024.
Where Rob really leaves his mark on you is hearing his powerful, smoke-smooth voice & his expansive musicianship; combined with his deeply personal and emotive songs. You will feel you have just experienced the musical equivalent of sipping a perfectly aged whisky, sat next to an open fire, as the cruel, cold modern world outside, for a short time at least, disappears.
